2006-2008 Strategic Plan

From April 2004-August 2005, TCYC's primary focus was on exploring how TCYC could best serve as the voice for Tarrant County Children and Youth Social Capital Development. During this 17 month period, TCYC Board and staff sought and received significant input from a Social Capital Task Force composed of more than 20 community leaders and a Youth Initiatives Task Force composed of over 30 youth leaders and youth.

Additionally, during this period TCYC Board and staff engaged in several projects with social capital features:  the Children's Neighborhood Networks, Youth Social Entrepreneurship model development, the NETCARE Version 2.0 Social Capital Enrichment Zone project, and supporting the three members of the Children & Youth Network:  the Arlington Child Care Council, Neglect Hurts Task Force and The Partnership For Children.

Based upon TCYC's 2004-2005 experiences, the TCYC Board has voted to pursue ten specific Core Focus Areas for 2006-2008 that the Board believes will build social capital for children and youth.

2006-2008 Core Focus Areas

Building Neighborhood:

If we believe that things are not as positive for children and youth as they should be, then TCYC should concentrate on the natural community systems that could, and should, be the framework within which children and youth can flourish. It is clear that public education, the faith community, and local government should explore more innovative strategies for ensuring that children and youth succeed.

Activities that build neighborhood:

  1. Continue the Arlington Child Care Council Ready for School Initiative.
  2. Continue to expand the Children's Neighborhood Network.
  3. Continue the NETCARE 76180 project.
  4. Develop and implement Building Connections: a Middle School strategic intervention pilot.
  5. Develop and/or import initiatives that enhance Tarrant County Elementary School Social Development efforts (i.e. Dancing Classrooms).

Youth Engagement:

TCYC should concentrate on bringing young people and the organizations within which they serve into a more unified effort to build social capital for children and youth.

Activities that build youth engagement:

  1. Facilitate the ongoing Youth Initiatives Task Force effort.
  2. Facilitate a Youth Faith Fest by Summer 2008 that will bring youth together to focus on building their neighborhoods.
  3. Continue the Youth Social Entrepreneurship Initiative.
